Colt’s mobile field shelters are suitable for a wide range of animals. From original design they are fit for purpose for a majority of pets or livestock. A list of animals suitable for our field shelters are featured below, along with a suggestion of size dimensions needed for them.
Horses, Ponies and Donkeys
The majority of our customers purchase mobile field shelters for equestrian purposes. Our shelters are predominantly designed for horses and ponies – with dimensions available for single or multiple animals. Our 3.6m x 3.6m shelters are perfect for a single pony or regular horse, then the model dimensions increase from 5.4m x 3.6m (2 ponies/1 large horse), to 7.2m x 3.6m (3 ponies/2 large horses), to our largest 10.9m x 3.6m (3+ ponies/3 large horses). You can usually judge the size shelter you need by your own animals, but if you need some advice please contact one of our representatives.
Alpacas and Llamas
As well as horses and ponies, our mobile field shelters are perfectly suitable environments for alpacas and llamas. The height of our shelters make them perfect for taller alpacas and you can help separate the animals for injections or sheering with a shelter gate. It is commonly believed that alpacas do not like field shelters, but that is not true, in fact they really appreciate them when looking for respite from the rain and wind. For alpacas and llamas we recommend shelter dimensions of 7.2m x 3.6m or 10.9m x 3.6m as the larger shelter dimensions allow two entrance/exit points for the animals to move freely in and out.
Sheep and Goats
A mobile field shelter is a great solution for separating sheep out in the field for sheering or treatment. Rather than having to bring all your animals in from the field, you can shear them easily onsite and rotate. Just fit a steel gate and you have a great system available to you. A mobile field shelter is a cost-effective solution for giving you extra flexibility. Our largest dimension shelter is most suitable for sheep as it gives you plenty of space to work in and an effective channel system. It also means more sheep can seek shelter in the rain or snow.
A significant benefit of the mobile field shelter is that you can move it around your field or paddock at a moment’s notice. Drag your shelter away from boggy or worn areas of the field with a tractor or 4×4 to give your animals a more pleasant living environment.
